Remembering December Premiere Contest Winner

Remember, My Dearest, December. On my birthday we met, The fifth day of the month, I shall never forget That awesome occasion-- Your breathless expression, With winsome persuasion. A week later, first date, I was late You patiently waited, knowingly, Guessing our inevitable fate. On Christmas Eve I gave you a ring Nothing too elaborate, I thought, Small diamond, a tiny dainty thing. We wed the following Christmas Eve I went away to fight the war, and In December, you were left to grieve.
FIRST PLACE TROPHY WINNER Written July 2, 2021 for “3-6-9 Poetry Contest” sponsored by Emile Pinet Rhymes checked with rhymezone.com Syllables checked with howmanysyllables.com Note: [different syllable checkers have different numbers of syllables for "diamond". I pronounce it with two syllables, i.e. die-mund].

so sad, L. Milton, but quite well-told in the 3-6-9 form. I have found the same disagreement between syllable counters -- especially when I was still teaching school. With so many dialects spoken, the topic was a difficult one to get across to students.

A small diamond has the same sparkle to it as a large diamond, it can also have just as much love installed in it, if not more as you notice from the grief expressed by her. Good luck in the contest, Milton. Hope all is well ~CM
