Remember
For those with a nostalgic bent, the most effective
vehicle can be a photo album, an old TV show or song,
or a chance meeting. When these fail me, I go riding.
Sunday afternoons are best
for thinkers with no need for rest.
Who knows how long the trip may last
on this, nostalgia's day of quest?
The place is a crucial element
in conjuring up the right memory.
The trails and haunts of youthful days,
all parts of glorious, carefree ways,
provide the seeker with a host
of color-vision one-act plays.
The searcher must not hope to find
the cure for an unhealthy mind--
must never seek a fresh supply
of smiles or glory left behind.
The just-right mood--reflective, but not grasping--
must be the only companion; or the mission will go
awry. Simply revisiting the past, though perhaps
refreshing, won't permanently banish present woes.
