Remember
For those with a nostalgic bent, the most effective vehicle can be a photo album, an old TV show or song, or a chance meeting. When these fail me, I go riding. Sunday afternoons are best for thinkers with no need for rest. Who knows how long the trip may last on this, nostalgia's day of quest? The place is a crucial element in conjuring up the right memory. The trails and haunts of youthful days, all parts of glorious, carefree ways, provide the seeker with a host of color-vision one-act plays. The searcher must not hope to find the cure for an unhealthy mind-- must never seek a fresh supply of smiles or glory left behind. The just-right mood--reflective, but not grasping-- must be the only companion; or the mission will go awry. Simply revisiting the past, though perhaps refreshing, won't permanently banish present woes. posted May 25, 2017 free verse and rhymed, metered poetry entered in Brian Strand's July Standard Contest on July 8. 2017
