Notes About The Poem

Reg's Vest

Reg just loved to wear a string vest It would cover his dark hairy chest Vests would hang on the line When the weather was fine String vests were the ones Reg loved best At the airport Reg was booked on a flight The metal scanner showed something not right Security were impressed His wallet’s pinned to his vest - They let him through much to Reg’s delight! This is a true story which was told by our friend Reg’s daughter after his funeral and I was challenged to write a poem about this 08-21-17

I can still see his daughter's portrait of him which was in the lounge where we went after the funeral - his eyes seemed to be watching us all the time when we were talking lol:-) hugs jan x

You made me smile with this awesome write my friend! It's too bad Reg has passed away, he seemed to have had an influence on people, in a positive way! I am glad that you have these challenges to stimulate your creative juices because you really accept them and rise to the challenge! You masterfully have done this Limerick! What a brilliant poem! I hope ALL my poems are original lol . I get inspiration from many places, pictures, cartoons Mama bear sends me or just observations in life, my latest challenge was to write about the pet names our friends give to farts lol - I read it over the phone to our friend's wife (she recently lost her hubby and asked me to write the poem) and she was in hysterics. It's good to make folks smile for a while:-) hugs jan xx

it was a very moving poem Andrea, had he lived I hope he would have found acceptance by the community - it must be so difficult to live a lie about one's sexuality simply to be seen to conform, he must have been very unhappy that he couldn't live as he wanted to:-( hugs jan xx

OH my goodness. A true story but so sad that he has died. It sounds like a man not that old, and yet he has a grown daughter , so I guess I was being deceived by the picture!

Reg was in his late 90's when he died earlier this year he was a most lovely man, his daughter told us about this incident at the airport and challenged me to write a poem about it - I've just completed another challenge by the widow of Bob whose funeral we went to on 11th - the poem is about farting so i couldn't resist writing that one lol:-) :-) hugs jan xx

Loved your fun poem about Reg and good on you for meeting the challenge. I was always told as a young man that a string vest was warmer than a regular vest. I think Reg bless him may have taken the last one with him, regards, Kevin X

cheers Kevin, his daughter said he would wear the vest even in summer! I have just completed another poem I was asked to write by the widow of friend whose funeral we attended on 11th August... the poem is about farting and the names she and her late hubby had for their farts lol - I read it to her on the phone tonight and she was in hysterics laughing and I printed it round and popped it through her letter box so she can read it to her friends in the US lol:-) hugs Jan xx

I guess Reg's wallet was not a threat. I think you've successfully won this challenge, Jan.

I wrote the poem some months ago and sent it to his daughter in Dubai and forgot to post it:-) He was extremely security conscious and kept his travel money in a money container attached by 2 safety pins to his vest :-) hugs jan xx
