Notes About The Poem

Regretting Cake

I bought a three layer chocolate cake for my sister
it had chocolate icing all around and fancy sweet words-
saying H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y . . . .
but the party was cancelled because she was sick
so . . . I put the cake in the refrigerator
I heard it calling my name
I tried to ignore it I really did try BUT
each time I opened the refrigerator door it said eat me
so I did . . .
               one little piece to start
oh gosh that sure was GOOD and delicious
I walked away proud that I had only one small piece
but the memory remembers things that are good
and the cake kept c a l l i n g
one more piece what is the harm really
I threw the last stale piece in the garbage today
darn it and darn my sister for getting sick
and forcing me to eat all the chocolate cake
with the chocolate icing and fancy sweet words-
but oh the chocolate demon in me says thank you so much
now I best go exercise because I am feeling quite F A T . . . .
and full of regretting cake . . .
oh maybe a float in the pool instead

Mmmm chocolate cake I find it hard to resist - had to smile at the sponsor's latest blog - As you know my hubby is recently diagnosed with diabetes ... we asked the dietitian about eating cake - she said everything in moderation - have just baked him some sugar free flapjacks - I could even drizzle plain chocolate on them as that is allowed too lol:-) hugs jan xx

Hi Constance, chocolate cake, you do know i have no self control, as soon as i finish this comment i shall be right into the kitchen. So it is known as regretting cake. I quite believe that, i regret not getting a piece. This was a most regretful write to read, just because i am going to put on an extra few pounds, to add to my extra few pounds and even some more. An excellent write Constance. I do hope it does do well. This is a big chocolate seven and a fave. Hugs....Mike. XX

I'm guessing regret has been easier than resisting temptation---but that's normal, Ha

Nothing like a good chocolate cake. One does not last long at our house. The problem is how do you hide one. I think I vaguely remember hiding a birthday cake in someone else's fridge. I use a Japanese glaze icing. My eldest daughters 25th birthday next Wednesday. Not sure what we are doing about cake. Loved your poem. David in slightly chilly NZ

this is SO COOL, Constance. It's exactly how we dieting women feel when we fall off the wagon. Great poem!

I would have eaten the whole lot in one go - it wouldn't have chance to go stale - there is just no difference in the habouring of guilt between just having a sneaky quick nibble here and there or "Scoffing" the whole lot all in one go - "See's ya in the Pool laters" . . . ; )

BW, that mean sister, shame on her for getting sick, lol. My only question is, was the icing the low deep sultry voice of butter cream or the sweet angelic voice of whipped icing.

James, oh it was sultry nothing angelic about it
