Refugees

Come by the thousands Hungry, desperate, each day Greece's agony mounts!* ------------ Home lost, new home found Distant shores opening arms Tears flooding the seas © Demetrios Trifiatis 17 August 2015 *Thousands of refugees and illegal immigrants enter Greece each day in search of a better future. Greece, despite its economic crisis and with an unemployment near 30% and salaries and pensions down by 40% helps the best way it can. Europe watches as more than two million of these unfortunate people live inside our country of ten million.

It a shame that they have to flee their homes. I wish we could fix the problems in their homeland. Then they wouldn't have to seek refuge elsewhere.

Yes, my friend it is a shame! The world should stop this war in Syria and elsewhere for make humanity as a whole suffering! In Turkey they say that some two million plus refugees and illegal immigrants are ready to pass into Greece and the rest of Europe. Greece has got more than two million of these unfortunate souls and my heart aches for them but for the Greeks as well for it becomes increasingly impossible to cope with the situation. I pray that nothing bad will happen that will cause things to go out of control! Thank you for your visit!

Hello Demetrios, A very poignant and most timely write given the mounting agony and circumstances for your Homeland and the horrible plight of the refugees and illegal immigrants entering there. This is certainly a European Union (in toto) problem, but in reality, a worldwide problem for all countries in the United Nations since it points toward the other refugees problems in other flash points throughout our troubled world. A very courageous write here Mein Guter Freund! A 7 + FAV! Cheers, Gary

I agree totally with you Demetrios!! This is why the UN under the auspices of the world-wide community, needs to be united in supporting Greece in this effort and working to help spread this terrible burden among the democratic members of the UN. The current situation, I agree the current circumstance, is not correct, which is particular why the world community must be an active player and not remain passive!! Cheers and Best, Gary

Mein freund Gary, the situation in Greece is getting out of hand as only in July 100.000 new refugees and illegal immigrants have come to Greece. In some islands the refugees surpass the Greek population which creates a major problem for these people to get food and a place to sleep. Keep in mind that a refugee has free medical care but a Greek who doesn't work has none! I feel sorry for the refugees but sorry also for the homeless Greeks and the unemployed who cannot get the same treatment as the refugees. If it continues like this, I am afraid to say that we will have major problems. Thank you for visiting! God bless you!

Yes, they are mistreated in their country but not here. We have more Greek victims than refuge victims dear Eve. The situation is desperate and one who has never been to a situation like the people in Italy, Greece, Lebanon , Turkey, Bulgaria and so on cannot understand. Period! It is beautiful to pray for people that are far but when you have 15000 illegal immigrants and refugees on an island of twenty thousand natives it is very hard to cope, for Greeks have enormous problems of their own! Thank you for visiting! Keep praying!

Oh my dear poet. I can feel the concern in every line. When does on start to turn them away? We have such an influx of Syrian refugees in Lebanon that I can understand the concerns....Hugs
