Red Door

Red Door Some say it’s a victimless crime People have partaken from earliest times Maybe they are consenting adults But this is not what it's all about Those who partake, join together their souls Pleasure commerce hearts always pay a toll Faces hidden both feel their shame They meet in darkness all the same What is this path, that so many choose Where both partakers eventually loose This is not what we are formed for Please walk away from the sorrowful Red Door

So true! Two hearts in jeopardy unless they unite in purity.

A thoughtful piece on a topic shrouded in emotions that need to be discussed. Your words are a great start, understanding can then begin. Nicely penned Richard :-) lynnxxx The title caught my eye because of Andreas poem for your 'Doors' contest. I just recommended you both to a very young man, Alex Anonymous. He has writers block, I suggested he read you both for inspiration. Enjoy a happy Friday and great weekend :-)

Hi Lynn Marie, thanks for reading one of my older ones. I hope you also have a wonderful weekend. I hope your friend Alex stops by. ;0)

My criticism was not of you but of Casarah in choosing to disclose sensitive family information on your poetry page.

Regarding yours of 11:03 AM today, Richard... When one is dealing with a contentious subject, one can't be too careful on the Internet in discussing one's family members.

I understand, however it is not up to me to decide what another person chooses to disclose. I can only try to respond as sensitively as I can.

I read the comments, and I see Eileen referred to the "Red Door" perfume subject. As you know, I tackled that today for John Lawless' contest... As for yours, I thought you tackled the prostitution subject well. I can't get over Casarah admitting her mother was a prostitute, this being the Internet. I'm surprised she wanted to say it on this open site.

I guess she is not looking at it from a perspective of shame. If it adds to a dialogue on the subject I think it is a good thing. Thanks for reading and commenting Julia.

I didn't actually know what you meant by the red door, until I read some of the comments. I did enjoy the poem, I have mixed feeling on the subject, my mother was a prostitute in vegas way back when, i can see the pro's and cons, i love how your poems touch every subject, you are awesome ;)

How is your mom now? Did her choice of work impact your feelings and thoughts around sexuality? I hope I am not being to intrusive by asking. Soup mail me if you like.

Well said, Richard. The heart of your poem, "Faces hidden, both feel the shame", is provocative. "Hidden", "shame": there is nothing to be proud of here in this world. There is no connection. There is no love. There is only commerce and lurid gratification. I hope you are right when you say "This is not, what we are made for". Loved your poem. Peace...Sam

I wish the society could understand..i lived in Bengal for 8 yrs. It was famous for prostitution and all those things associated with it. I got a chance to interact with a prostitute who was travelling in the same bus. people in the bus were treating her like an untouchable. I got annoyed and in order to offend them i sat next to her. I am not ashamed of doing what I did. you have highlighted a very serious issue Richard. I am proud of you. This peom is better than the BEST ! 100/100...cheers !

Richard, not offensive. Something that needs to be brought to light. However...I can't get the negative vibes needed cause Red Door used to be a scent I wore by Elizabeth Arden! It is simply beautiful! Just saying....the poem...GREAT! Worded very well! Like Andrea said, for some...there is no other alternative

I am glad it is not offensive. Sorry about the fragrance though. I guess Elizabeth Arden wants you to embrace the naughty side.

there is not a thing risque in how you presented this one, richard. I bet you got fewer comments because you had not built up a fan base yet. I like your symbolism of the red door. Kind of like the scarlet letter. Did you see Les Mis. I believe some simply have to resort to the world's oldest profession when they are starving and need to provide for a family. So sadly true I think. mostly in third world countries but even here in the good old USA

Great work, I love how open minded you are. I think the mind works wonders when a poet can write with an open mind. Love it.
