Reason For the Nativity
REASON FOR THE NATIVITY
Streets filled with confusion and gloom.
When Jesus was born, there was no room.
Caesar Augustus had decreed
each family return to their own country
to pay their taxes, from debt to be freed.
So, Joseph took Mary. He found their way
on the long, long journey
to the stable where they'd stay.
Midst cobwebs and spiders, cockroaches, and flies,
the Savior opened His tiny, Baby eyes.
The light from the star pointed the way
for wise men to find where the Baby lay.
The glow from Heaven shown through His eyes;
His smile, soft and gentle, as were His little cries.
By night the shepherds left their sheep
to find God's Little One fast asleep.
The cows in the stable saw it all
as they tossed and turned in their separate stalls.
The donkey in the corncrib looked surprised.
Baby Jesus woke up and blinked His eyes.
One day Baby Jesus would be the man
who'd die for us on the cross as God planned;
His sacrifice would save us from Death's curse.
He would rise from the dead. He'd be the first.
No more would a man be called Death's slave.
Our Jesus would conquer over the grave.
Jesus broke the Gates of Death for us.
He wanted us to know in Him we could trust.
He came to earth as our friend
to give us the promise of new life within.
There is room for all at the Savior's Inn
when we open our hearts to be with Him.
