Really Only Ever
I really only ever wanted you happy,
didn't know
it had so
much to do with me.
But I love, love, love it.
You're allergic to the space I leave.
You have life
and survive
off the exhaled air I breathe.
And I love, love, love it.
Can't believe
someone needs
to be happy
with little old me.
Thank you, thank you.
I really only ever wanted you happy
and I didn't mind
when I thought I
wasn't who you need.
So I toughened up
and grew accustomed
to being without your love,
but sadness won.
So those birds of sadness
perched on our heads
and formed nests.
I learned what hurt is.
Til we found out
we can't live without
(despite oxygen everywhere)
each other's air.
There's nothing like
the day that I
woke up to find
I'm the reason you can fly.
I really only ever wanted you happy.
You always smile when you look at me.
And inside
a match strikes.
Throughout me
I'm happy.
Thank you, thank you.
