Reality Bites
When I wake up in the morning
after dreaming and see the dawn of light,
like a rude rooster crowing, reality bites,
when I watch the nightly news
and hear about the daily crimes,
like a terrorist attacking, reality bites,
when I get my paycheck and see
whats left after all they take out,
like an Uncle Sam thieve, reality bites,
when I go to the store and use coupons
and pay for a few necessary items,
like a hungry desperate child, reality bites,
when I watch the 2 contenders
for the upcoming presidential election,
like some horror movie fright, reality bites,
when I talk to my loved ones and they're still
confused about what they want to do with their lives,
like a televised Dr. Phyllis reaction, reality bites,
when in anticipation I think about
my husbands upcoming triple bypass surgery,
like a women waiting and praying,
try as I might, reality bites,
when I use my poetry as a diversion
and finish typing and post it on the website,
and glance at the Macintosh symbol of the apple,
its just another reminder, that reality
almost always bites.
