Real Men
Bigger than life,
the man I married,
is/was everything and more,
I thought before,
I said I do.
He took care of his family,
and joined the service.
He fought for his country,
and the freedom of all.
He stood when he should,
knelt when he had to,
and prayed every day...
of his life.
He was/is head of the house,
for every good reason,
in all the seasons,
hard and easy to decorate.
A stone in grief,
a rock in hardship,
ever God his Captain,
and Mighty Commander.
In the end,
when life was sad,
he had to go,
you know.
Even heroes,
walk slowly,
from carrying;
the burdens of others,
talk lowly; (barely heard, nearly a whisper)
as wisdom (wasted on the foolish at any age)
has given them great worth.
The power of their words,
not less but more,
than ever before,
and then
they are just...
gone.
