Ranting Again

I don’t enter contests…
my writing not competitive

Enough if some I please
my main goal, making connections --
a few extended comments encouraging

Realizing that human nature
is early onset AI

Questioning if the soul can ever
entirely express independent of its physical
vehicle DNA?

Makes no sense to me, either. Taking credit for the writing of others. Lazy. Immoral. More harm will come from AI than good.

Dear Joe, your poem has multi-dimensional thought provocations built in to a wonderful introspective "rant". Your last stanza will have me pondering that question from as many sides as I can find. Your heart and soul baring is poetically, personally and philosophically elevating. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Thank you, Sara; with me poetry is about subduing one's conditioned mental reflexes, and allowing purer inert forces to take control of the stylus. In short, poetry should be about transcending the physical into realms of the metaphysical. The heart of great writing is spiritual and not commercial.

You really ought to try contests. I think your writing is marvelous.

Hi Andrea; thank you. It's just not me, not the way I like to write. I get an idea, and just go with it in all directions.

AI is without soul and poetry is all about living and soul…

I am really resenting AI in the Arts. It is not the death of art, because artists will do art no matter what. Always there will be small gatherings of innovative creative individuals. But none will make a buck at it. Commercial mediocrity will rule...young people will never develop the skills needed to produce unique, personal products. It will hurt soul and spirit development -- the devil must be overjoyed. Another appealing way to keep humanity on the surface layer of creation.

Only when I get a subject and a prescribed form, I write. It's not for wins alone. There are sponsors who have never given a win for me. Still I enter their contests. I don't feel bad even if I lose. An occasional win makes me happy . I know that's all I deserve. I admire your attitude. Write according to your inclination, never conforming to any rigid rules.

Of course, definitely write according to your heart. Write what you want and how you want. More of interest to me about this work are the subjects of AI and DNA, but the mention of Contests was a hot button I should have respectfully anticipated. Regardless, all comments are welcome. Often I learn more about my attempts at poetry from comments than the self I have waded through during the writing process. Blessings my friend.

Ha, ha. Meither neither, Joe. I think I've entered three contests in the last calendar year --- each time when another poet alerted me that one of my poems happened to fit the contest parameters. ~ Square pegs in round holes, gw

I've tried to follow rules, but shortly into the poem I write something that strays from guide-lines, something I really like and am not wanting to discard for any reason -- flop! Thank you, Gershon.

I enjoy your verse. DNA is a very intriguing form of matter. I often wonder how many people are in it. Thanks for your views.

Hi Hilda; how much of seeming one is truly individual? Programed in a sense by physical/mental maybe spiritual constituents. Is there really an individual? And yet no two are the same conglomerate. No matter how many in the mix. The many/individual. And when we consider the all, maybe back to the God -- nothing existing outside of the limitless inside/outside of God. DNA, are there really any exclusions or limitations? We transverse living membranes of self-illusion. Soup is a wonderful chance for self expression -- I may be totally gibberish, but one has to give me a little credit for not wasting opportunity. Thank you Soup!

Your "Ranting Again" is creative. I enjoy reading your wonderful writes. Some like contests/some do Not. I find they make me think hard. Some I will Not do for one reason or another. Great Ending/Great Question....  I am loving this wonderful weather. Wish we had 12 months of it. Enjoy your fun day writing away............

Thank you, Paula; I agree, no right no wrong to the matter. All about personal preference. Loving the weather! 3 days without air-conditioning. 12 months would be great, but taking what we can get. Blessings.

There should never be ranting over contest wins and losses. Those who have accused me of such carrying on are incorrect. If winning was a priority for me, I'd enter every contest available. Some are challenging, some are boring, some lots of fun, and some are sponsored by poets I'd rather not waste my time writing for. They should all be taken with a 'laissez-faire attitude. Having published a book, edited professionally or not, when it comes to writing, we're all just writing what's inside of us. You should always write your way, Joe. I admire your attitude of "Just Write!"

Everyone is different. Folks should just enjoy the art of others, regardless of the form or style. Write what one likes, and read or look at what one thinks fit. Lately people make brain surgery out of everything -- now for a glass of wine -- I know, only 4 in the afternoon:)) Nowhere to drive, and I'm long retired.

I just can't follow guidelines. With me, my way, the muse takes hold of the stylus, and I try to stay as much out of the way as possible. More organic to my mind. To each his own. This was not written as an indictment of contests...maybe if someone is struggling, can't seem to connect~ their writing world is not coming to an end. Just Write! I read everything I have energy enough to read. Contest entries or not.
