Another rainy day, I’m stuck inside the house as I can’t play outside when it’s pouring So I must creep round as quiet as a mouse because on the sofa I hear daddy snoring! Today it’s my daddy’s birthday Mummy and I we love to bake Outside it’s too wet for me to play So we will make daddy a big birthday cake We pop the sponge tins in the oven Mummy lets me lick the spoon The finished cake will feed a dozen Oh I hope the cake is ready soon! The rain is falling from the sky I know our garden needs a drink When the sun comes out the ground will dry I’m going to help mummy wash the dishes in the sink We cover the cake in icing; it looks so nice My teddy joins us at the table for tea I ask mummy if teddy can have a big slice - but it will really end up inside MY tummy! At last the sun begins to shine And daddy takes me out to play Daddy said his birthday cake was divine I have really enjoyed my rainy day! Form R Contest Sponsored by Broken Wings 06-29-17

Thanks so much ^WW^ I hope I've not deviated from 'rainy' too much - we have had torrential rain and heavy rain for days so I know the stuck indoors feeling well this week - I have baked flapjacks and hubby does snore on the sofa but the rest is pure poetic licence ... i think mine is due to expire any day now lol:-) hugs Jan xx

This is a wonderful poem, Jan, will do very well. My mom never made any sweets, even now at 84 still won't , so I never got to lick the spoon...

I had such fun writing the poem Chris. I'm not sure what Constance is after with the 'rainy' theme but I have to go with my muse and was really pleased with the way the poem turned out in the end:-) hugs Jan xx

I rarely bake cakes now as my husband is diabetic but I do make scones and sugar free flapjacks for him. My favourite recipe is chocolate brownies made with almonds instead of flour but I can't remember the last time I made them - I need my son to come home and I will make some as he adores them (and so do I!!!) hugs Jan xx
