Rage of Mortal Despair

Verdant hills fluttered whispers of amber winds
And flowers too smiled on the face of morning
Yet, nothing was the same in season’s dawning
Disfigured by blemish on visage of new spring
When shadows of death spread indiscriminately
As a pernicious virus began flexing its virulence.

Spirits started to dampen bearing helpless sighs
When a doctor, quite distressed, took her own life--
Like a sentry she guarded her intubated ward
Yet, one by one, they were dying on her watch
As corridors of hospitals became makeshift morgues
And a stygian night killed a child in her arms
While someone’s grandma without closure passed
Longing to hug her grandchild for one last time
Too weak to raise her hand for a final goodbye.

Forces of doom continue to traverse worldwide
Stymying the tempo of commercial enterprise
And darkness defies astral aura of heavens above
Ravaging relentlessly millions and millions of lives
As rage of mortal despair endlessly smolders on.

''And darkness defies astral aura of heavens above Ravaging relentlessly millions and millions of lives''. Even after two years, the threat still hangs over mankind like Democles' sword ! Now a new variant Omicron is sneaking in, drowning the world in uncertainty. You have absorbed the heartache of the whole of humanity in your wonderful lines

My heart aches knowing that so many are taken from this world- due to a virus beyond our control. Other health issues were the cause of several in my world passing away. Not this virus. It is still heartbreaking. Your thoughts curl softly around me. ~ Brandy

Great feeling in this one. For me, it is a future world where indeed millions will die and not thousands like today. Love how you incorporated the words and also added great words of your own!

A very sad but true situation. A poem built on emotions of a cruel pandemic. Brilliant execution of sentiments in this ailing world. Top class poetry. ~~
