Oh Moon, the shining lantern of the sky!
The brightest light set ablaze in the dark!
Glorious boon, heaven freely granted!
Committed guardian of the night!
You appear each night to lead the wayfarers,
The ones lost in the labyrinth of darkness
Shed PHOSPHOROUS beams of light on their way
You stay aloft in the firmament in deep solitude,
Amid clouds that CASCADE high up in the sky
Yet you are in benevolent contact with all creation.
Attended by the entourage of MYRIAD winking stars,
In your royal palace of the aquamarine sky,
You reign as unquestioned queen of the night.
Watch over the earth with unwavering vigil
You travel over the horizon from the start of dusk
And back to the edge of dawn, unhampered.
Your shimmering rays like silvery streams SLITHER
And come down sliding, slanting and crashing.
Every day you appear in changing guise
Like a SERPENTINE beauty out to conquer
Turning from LUNAR crescent to circle,
And from circle to crescent, waning and waxing,
Rising and setting on appointed times.
The tranquillity of your visage comforts us
In the soft LILT of the night, we raise our eyes
To catch a glimpse of your regal self amid the NEBULA.
On seeing your shimmering face with the glow of beams,
Flowing, splashing and crashing the darkness,
Turning every night into fluorescent brightness,
In pure ecstasy we whisper – “How beautiful you are!”
