Putting My Life On the Line

Tiptoeing in the middle of the night Certain that Mom and Dad are out sight Stealing away to do what I love best Heart pounding like a hammer in my chest There on those linen sheets you wait for me All spaced out, and as blank as blank can be I close the door and hide away the key Escaping from a life of drudgery Once again putting my life on the line Though Mom and Dad say it is such a crime Neglecting my homework to be with you Knowing to thine own self I must be true So with pen in hand I lay myself down And pray that this diary won’t be found Author: Elaine George Written: may 19, 2014 Inspired By my imagination for the contest

Truly exceptional sonnet my friend. My well over two thousand poems written over a course of about 44 years are my diary, methinks, - as most are about me, my loves, loss , joys, friends , family , inspirations and life, etc.. Adding to my fav list...

Hello Robert. Wow! Over two-thousand poems. Yes! I agree...our poems are truly expressions of who we truly are. Also, thank you for listing my poem as one of your favorites...this means so much to me. Elaine

A diary was the first place that we learned to express ourselves. I still have mine, and it is so interesting to turn back the pages and remember those days.... I really enjoyed your winning poem, Lainie. Very nice work! Congratulations to you!

Hi, Elaine! I really like the suspense and mini heart-attacks this write caused me. I can relate well because I've been in similar situations and your poem brought them to mind. LOL I gotta make sure to keep my diary extra safe.

- Secret thoughts and dreams in your book - it's not reading material for mother and father - a "sweet girl" poem Eileen - (Are you back home now?) - oxox // Anne-Lise :)
