Proud To Be Irish

Colour me perfect in green white and gold, A tricolour heart from the young to the old, A land of giants from the causeway to swift, A tongue silver sharp each Irishman's gift, Born with a rainbow in each penciled heart, Wilde, joyce, and Shaw all creators of art, Samuel Becketts Godot and WB Yeates, Fountains of words, the world still relates. Words flow like water as blood flows like wine, The last rose of summer it's rich soul divine. Pygmalion a masterpiece by George Bernard Shaw, Where tales of silk woven for a century or more. Bram Stoker a name goes straight to the heart, From the ruins of Whitby each stake plays a part, And Saint Oliver Plunkett his limbs torn apart. At Tyburn was Martyred by a king with no heart. From the lakes of Killarney to the Rose of Tralee, To the mountains of Mourne flowing down to the sea, Theirs always a welcome Uische Beathe galore, The craic and the ceilidh and legendary folklore. A nation of people, resilient rich and strong, Together united, hearts dreaming as one, The voice of our Anthem singing , A Soldiers Song .

A beautiful poem. A land of people that seem very charismatic. A patriotic rhyme that I enjoyed (hope I got it right this time). So good, I'll fav it. (Maybe read it to my poetry group on Thursday).

I could feel so much pride in your words; I admire each of those famous artistic souls (Wilde,Beckett, etc.) I also liked how you brought in the physical aspects of your country as well as the attributes of its citizenry. Well done, Danny! Especially liked these words, for I am a Shaw fan: Words flow like water as blood flows like wine, The last rose of summer it's rich soul divine. Pygmalion a masterpiece by George Bernard Shaw

Hello Sara, it feels a bit like New York New York , so good you commented twice lol , there was a great Irish poet in the late 18th early 19th century called Thomas Moore who wrote the most exquisite poem called The Last Rose of Summer , one of my all time favourites poems . Thanks once again for your lovely words , your Irish friend Danny

And so you should be Daniel, which county are you from.? My parents were from County Clare, Ive been over many many times, last October I was at a family reunion at the Old Ground Hotel In Ennis. I was at the St Patrick's day parade in Birmingham on the 17th and me and my brother proudly carried the Clare banner. Hope your weekend is going well. Tom

Hi Tom, I'm from County Monaghan , a few miles outside a small Irish town called Carrickmacross, which was famous for lace making. I'm hoping one day in the future to retire there, as I love and miss the people. Clare is a beautiful county, I spent my honeymoon there, so lots of lovely memories . I think I will just keep adding bits to this poem as their is so much you can say about Ireland . To carry the banner that must have been a great feeling and honour , good for you Daniel
