Proof
She:
Prove to me thy love.
Then doubt I may dismiss.
Give proof of thy worthiness
for thy woman's marital bliss.
He:
How can this proof of love,
be shown in word or deed?
When tongues speak noble vapors
and acts are restless steeds.
She:
Art thou a man?
Show me thy worth.
Stand and deliver.
Your proof that's my thirst.
He:
This task thou ask.
This feat thou seeks.
Has frustrated the strong,
confounded the weak.
Ask me to capture the wind
and bring thou his soul.
Bid me to mend the night
and make thy darkness whole.
But, send me not
to solve this quest,
that has no answer
and fails all tests.
She:
I taste the wind
and feel it’s embrace.
I kiss the night
and touch it’s face.
Do not tell me
thy quest is hard,
or thy path is lost.
Proof of your love
for this woman’s heart
comes with a cost.
He:
How can one prove love exists,
there's no taste, texture, or bone.
Nothing to melt your senses,
nothing to break your stone.
Is love iron,
or is it mist?
Is it sorrow,
like a fleeting kiss?
Does it fly o'er the heavens,
then fall to earth?
Does it continue through death
or renews at birth?
This I present
for thy doubting heart to shift.
Love is not a thing to prove
but a simple little gift.
