Profound
As I quiz through life
Meet with dreary strife,
Learn to discern life.
Think upon my pains
With frowns and restraint,
Plough through pleasure-pain.
Gain from odd pleasure
To hoard full measure,
Yet it's just pleasure.
When we stop to chat
Pleasure this and that,
Strings a hollow chat.
Pleasure has a way
To cite non-stop say,
On the empty way.
So unlike sorrow
That is not hollow,
Joy hides in sorrow.
Sorrow feels deep pain
That unfurls again,
Gain hides in my pain.
So live that stern poise
See that poignant choice,
Sorrow brings grand poise.
