Prisoners Exercising Van Gogh

Inspired by Prisoners Exercising by Van Gogh Take my face and etch it into your mind I am captured, detained, instructed When to put one foot in front of the other Soul destroyed yet there is still fear That I will rise up Despite the ability to trample our captors I could not scale or storm these walls Nor would I have the impetus to I am defeated, broken, barely holding shape But for the instruction to walk I would lay down and await my death With no means to hasten it Just silently will for release From this prison That is my human form It creates the walls around me That I cannot escape That are now a solid vision Trapped in this hold For those lost such as I What freedom awaits I do not know I have only known incarceration of the mind And am doubtful of my release from that Perhaps the butterfly knows best I see two wise souls rising up now The ironic freedom of predetermined goals Butterfly you are free Because your mind is small enough And I am damned as I spent too much time thinking Your Pick Again Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Brian Strand
