Why limit the holiday to celebrate/study only Washington and Lincoln? If we neglect the others, we risk all kinds of bad tastes in the future.

You are very kind. They are like cookies in a way as they can be finished off quickly.

A fun one, Duke. I remember a time when on the calendar was only Lincoln's birthday and Washington, the two most loved and famous. Now we celebrate president day and I could not care less for most of them. The last few decades of them have been horrible. Going on back to Nixon

I was thinking that Lincoln and Washington were consolidated mitigate the expense of MLK day as a federal holiday, but I am unsure of the entire set of facts and can not verify this possibility. We now have 11 federal holidays and the last one added a couple of years ago was Juneteenth, so in a way we have the end of slavery (a worthy thing to celebrate), which also indirectly connects us back to Lincoln as well.

I love that image, Duke.. ITs quite cool and I suppoe it inspired your poem? Its very clever use of analogy though and you converted it really well into a limerick..

SO, I write my limericks and then submit them to an AI program, which designs the image in a couple of seconds. It's an insight into how AI is going to replace a lot of work that people do now...sad to say. I am blown away by the whole thing. However, I do like the images as well and think it adds something to the site and presentation.

Thats a creative picture to go with this limerick. Surely we need to learn more about other presidents too etc. expand our knowledge: hah. Ignomarus a word iv never used or heard of before but is catchy for me. I love how well you rhyme and how you write about various subjects and thoughts. As for me , i am the least bit patriotic. I admire patriotic souls. Although i do get the humor too here. Pleasure reading your limerick

I am flattered and delighted that you liked this one. There is so much history to study and learn from. Really too bad that we try to protect our egos and can't look at the truth in many cases. That is a very broad statement, but I could give many examples if asked.

If one blindly follows orders and says--"my country right or wrong" it's not something I support. Real patriotism means supporting the ideals of our government and its foundations and institutions, which protect people. I suspect you are patriotic in that sense. We hope there are diplomatic solutions to issues and that we don't need to give our lives for our country unless we really are attacked/threatened physically.

That's a fine limerick and just in time for Presidents' Day. It gave me patriotic pride.

Hilda, I am trying to be funny, but if we can be patriotic as well that is a great thing!!! I have one more to post on another aspect of this holiday.
