Prejudice

I hate
your brownness
your whiteness,
your blackness
your freeness
I don’t care about niceness
I’m more partial to meanness

I’m all the things bad
ugly and cruel
my venom pure evil
I’m partial to a fool

No one is safe
no not Christian or Jew
If you’re Buddhist or Muslim
I will hate you too

Richer or poorer
or shades in between
I will exploit your weakness
That’s always been my scene

Woman or man
Transsexual or gay
those straight as an arrow
they’ll all forget to pray

Fear and deception
are the tools of my trade
Sometimes the water looks calm
but it’s a trap I have laid

Love is the weapon
I most truly despise
Because it reveals who I am
and it opens your eyes

Richard, this is a beautiful poem. I love your take on this monster. Hate is its weapon of choice, and it's what closes people's eyes to the beauty in this life. That last stanza is brilliant. And love, it opens peoples eyes.

What a powerful poem with tense and morality. The verse jumps sublimely from one line to the other and the finger pointed to the unwanted immoral people is true to the word. I wouldn't have expected more from your pen, but as usual, you always astound me with your talent.

G'day Richard … close to this darn virus thing. It hates everyone no matter who and has no respect for anything. This is another great factual poem from your pen Richard - stay safe up there - Lindsay

Richard, this is great! You do a great job of setting the "speaker of the poem" up to be a hater, and then you give the solution or "weapon most feared" at the end. Love really is the thing that opens our eyes, and it is the thing that still stands at the end of all things. As usual, I always love reading your work, because your poetry is on the level of the greats!

Hi Richard, there are so many people these days who seem to fit into these forms of bigotry. I don't see how people can be so judgemental, people who must think themselves to be so perfect. As always, your write holds the attention of the reader. It surely makes me think and it makes me know the person I never wish to be. It is wonderful to be reading your poetry again Richard. This is a definite fav. Have a wonderful Friday. Your friend always....Mike.

This just popped into my head a few mornings ago. There are a number of things I have written that I have put very little thought into. I it feels like they have written themselves so it feels odd to receive compliments. All the same, thanks Harry.
