Precious Pearl

A soft whisper, across the room
I watched her shake out the old broom
Please come over to me mister
Across the room, a soft whisper

I walked her way, she smiled at me
In her presence I felt so free
Looking in her eyes made my day
She smiled at me, I walked her way

A simple girl, natural beauty
She asked "Are you bound by duty?
Can you please help me find my pearl?"
Natural beauty, a simple girl

I said "gladly, for but one kiss
to taste your lips, would be my bliss."
"Do you wish for me so badly?"
"For but one kiss" I said gladly

Down on one knee, I searched the ground
I prayed for her pearl to be found
For with her, I wanted to be
I searched the ground, down on one knee

A precious pearl, held in my hand
Her lips were then, mine to command
She was a woman not a girl
Held in my hand, a precious pearl

I watched her turn, she walked away
She said "dear sir you've had your pay
Within my chest, my heart did burn
She walked away, I watched her turn

For Andrea Deitrich's
"Swap Quatrain Contest"

I kept all the lines to eight sylables to
further challange myself. This was a tough
but fun one to write Andrea.

Richard, I really like this one of yours. If you noticed, I had a number of really nice ones at the fifth placement. Seeing yours again, I realize I should have placed it even higher. I think I should have put it fourth now. You did awesome with the challenge. congrats for your win.

What a great comment, I am so honored. As for your poetry you fail to recognize your own gifts which I see as considerable. Hugs Rick.

A marvel of a story beautifully written and incomparably touching! Next time hope she will ask to find her more than one pearl so your reward greater would be! A 7 my friend Richard!

'' I prayed for her pearl to be found'' ''A precious pearl, held in my hand Her lips were then, mine to command'' A prayer answered Richard...nothing venture not gain,a kiss for finding a pearl is not on high side.I'm still laughing...corporate lover

When you got down on one knee I thought you were going to propose to her lol. Well done Rick, haven't had time to think on this form but you've done a great job, especially keeping to the syllables. Take care, Richard

I like the comparison of the pearl with natural beauty. Some would call it dull in the world of flashy stones, but it captures a natural beauty that none of the rest can. Like a woman with natural beauty can capture a man's heart like no other can. Well said, and thank you for sharing.

Simple pleasures, simple power. This was a pretty graceful poem. Be sure to apply a comma before "I said gladly" & "a precious pearl". It'll flow even better than it already does. ;-)
