No country currently has a 90% income tax rate. Finland holds the top spot with a maximum rate of 57.3%, followed by Japan at 55.95%, and Denmark at 55.9%. In the U.S.A, the top income tax rate is 37%. The U.S.A did have a top marginal income tax rate exceeding 90% during the 1940s and 1950s as part of a progressive tax system designed to fund government programs during and after World War II. Figures cited here are before any deductions are applied, etc., so even someone taxed at 90% would not actually pay the whole of that 90%.

He was peeved at having to pay 90% tax on earnings of a billion, because that would leave him with only a measly one-hundred million. And he found it hard to bear, that, for the general welfare, he’d have to wait at least nine more years before he could actually count himself among billionaires.
