Poppy Wars

The dead don’t care what colour poppy you wear - if it’s knitted or a diamante stud for dead men stare with blinded eyes and their despair is the colour of the khaki in the mud The dead don’t care what colour poppy you wear - white for peace or purple, red for blood they gave their lives that you should have one their despair is the colour of the khaki in the mud © Gail Foster 30th October 2018

Oooh. A real gem, Gail. This is an instant FAVE for me. Shades of the brevity and message of Lincoln's Gettysburg address in your sage words. Season's best, Gershon

Thank you, Arturo. The story behind this poem is that some people in my town are objecting to the fact that the Market Cross is decorated with red, white, and purple poppies. There are more important battles than that to fight. All the best to you.
