Popeye the Sailor Man
sure could pop spinach out of a can.
Strength and pep he would gain.
Might we say spinach was his cocaine?

Nice one ! Hi Andrea, I couldn’t find your blog, so I am making this comment here : to refer to a poetic form as an Asian form is considered racist. Oh, this certainly brings back memories. I think I can credit Popeye for making spinach my favourite vegetable. Not to cocaine levels, of course, but who doesn't want to be super strong? Thanks for writing this gem!

I thought spinach was a horrible veggie because my mother only used it from the can. I did not even realize it was similar to lettuce! Then later in life I learned it tasted great just in a salad eaten raw!

I was such a silly kid, I actually had a crush on this cartoon character, along with Mighty Mouse.
