Point of No Return

POINT OF NO RETURN She didn’t say no exactly But I couldn’t catch her eye She surveyed the ground Danced swayed Looked ALL around Looked FAR off – clear through the red brick of Old Main Science Hall Wrinkles of invention shown and a certain element of surprise Her “High!” had been distantly friendly BUT! With a definite hint of a hasty “Goodbye!” Now? Now I was sorry I asked Just a moment of daring She was SO popular And I? The school nerd Now? Oh, NOW to be invisible instead of mentally prostrate before the Queen of Sheba …………………………………………………………… This isn’t a true story. I never had that much courage.

Thanks for your message, Daver. I've read the book several times myself and am always moved to tears by the "monster's" desire to be loved. Hollywood should make the movie from this perspective; it would touch people of all ages, not just kids looking for a good scare. Love, Carolyn

The Frankenstein "monster" was misunderstood. When you read Mary Shelley's novel, you sympathize more with him than you do with Dr. Frankenstein, Daver. Most people have only seen the Hollywood portrayals and don't realize this. Thanks for your comments. Love, Carolyn

Glad it didn't happen to you but it does to a lot of shy people and some of them turn out to be the winners. It all works out in the end. Thanks for commenting on my featured poem and glad to find you here. Will read more. Love, Joyce

You gave me a good laugh, Daver. I can see you trying to get the "Queen's" attention. Very funny last verse! Love, Carolyn
