"Why Did I Become A Poet"  Poetry Contest

Sponsor: Jay Narain

Stared at two passionate lines for the longest time! What I wrote…as if in a trance, is this a verse? Tears fell, one after another… Every drop, every translucent pearl of grief Long encased in a shell of hope and disappointment... I was rapt with a feeling of purification, This was my holy place, a poem was my offering! A wrong decision in youth caused insurmountable uphill struggle, Shutting my eyes, clenching my fist, hushing my voice! Finally a drizzle of rain from heaven quenching my starving lyrical soul, Phoenix rising from the ashes, this is Me! My creativity was back, negativity disappeared in a mist, There is unselfish love in this world, there is miraculous compassion Expressing myself in rhymes made sense to me, Poetry made me feel whole.... Days are gone when I felt despondent and trivial, Drowning in verses, found my catharsis - an existence significativa!

“Drowning in verses, found my catharsis - an existence significativa!” What a line to end this soulful write with dear mala, i feel the same way, poetry though found me, and i think like many it is also a form of catharsis for me. As i write to express. You do weave words so well! Every word in this flows with the other seamlessly! Pleasure reading your work: sending you light. Best wishes for the contest.

Thank you so much, Dear Empress. I might not be able to continue writing unless my poet-friends (definitely you)inspire me. Same like you, I write to express. This is a learning journey for me too. There are so many exceptional poets at this site, I learn from each one of them. You are a brilliant poet - using poetic devices as well as soul of the poems. Wish I had a golden pen like you. Love and Hugs ~

I can so relate to your poem, Mala! Poetry brings me balance and I, too, find catharsis and purpose in my day-to-day existence. I especially liked: "I was rapt with a feeling of purification, This was my holy place, a poem was my offering!" Best wishes with the contest, hugs, Sara

Thank you so much, Dear Sara. I used to love writing starting from my teenage years - whenever i felt something deeply, I used to write...but not in verse. Poetry came to me really late, after a gap of many years, and now I can't stop writing poems, in my two languages. Your beautiful, thoughtful comments are so appreciated! Love and Hugs ~
