Poeming In the Plaza
Poets write poetry; I order pizza
Watch Jeopardy every evening
Close my emails with "Sincerely"
Instead of my own fancy phrase
Wear solid colors--no artsy-fartsy scarf
To set me apart from a regular person
I'm just like a regular person
Spending my afternoon in a plaza
Shopping for a navy blue scarf
Seeking company for the evening
This normalcy is only a phase
I tell my prospects sincerely
I woo my prospects sincerely
A little more than a regular person
Not inventing my own phrase
I ask for pepperoni on my pizza
Before I know it it's evening
The weather too warm for a scarf
I cover my face with my scarf
Prowl the streets without sincerity
I'm a warrior of the evening
Trying to pass as a regular person
Showing at your door with a pizza
I greet you with a familiar phrase
You've heard my familiar phrase
Seen the face behind the scarf
I have zits like a cheese pizza
Try to fool you with false sincerity
I'm never a regular person
But an avenger in the evening
I'm an avenger in the evening
My adolescent angst only a phase
I'm more of a wraith than a person
Too hideous to take off my scarf
I ruin you with my insincerity
Drink your tears with my pizza
Am I the person of the evening
To paint this plaza in a poetic phase
Me with my scarf and my sincerity
