Pluto - a Pleiades

“Planet” of the distant past, now considered too petite for the title. Pray, don’t you despair now. Pirouette though pitch void, pretty as always, for perhaps our minds will change. 4/11/2021. Written for Kim Merryman's "Pleiades P" contest. 1st prize.

You have hit on a very debatable theme in this poem, Kathleen! Downgrading Pluto to a 'dwarf planet' certainly did not go down well with everyone. Discussions are still ongoing, and I hope in the near future Pluto will be reinstated amongst the elite! ~ Regards // paul

I worked at a convenience store years ago. One of my co-workers who had a small telescope claimed to have seen Pluto. I told him: "No way. What you saw was not Pluto. You would have to go to a big observatory like Mt. Palomar and use their telescope to see it. What you saw was most likely an asteroid orbiting between Mars and Jupiter. They're finding new ones all the time. If you find something new, you get to name it." Nice write.
