Please Step Up If I Step Back

Amongst the many other things I'm sorry So sorry my heart breaks in two As angry as I've ever been My soul's wish would be to save you My power rests not with saving But with offering you some time Choosing a good day of yours And merging it with mine The day before and after May be squandered and discarded But on the day the stars align We'll sing and dance unguarded I can't promise I can offer My peace and self each day I'm sorry oh so sorry But it has to be this way I hope that the days I gift Are enough to quell Some of the pain and sorrow That in your heart does dwell I've learnt that I have limits There's no point in should and could Of trying to save you endlessly Whilst you undo the good So I find the line to stand behind That's a distance I can bear I'm sorry oh so sorry I do and always care So where was I? Oh yes, wrapped up in so much despair I need to cast that off now And heal and rest and repair I'll put you on the right path Then turn away and leave It's all I can do to save myself Even though I grieve I grieve the chances lost I grieve the hope you still hold I grieve I cannot help you But I need to shed the load I look inside and judge myself It's the last thing I want to do That's why I chose it last of all I tried so many many times to save you Whilst wishing doesn't change things My energy is depleted Please keep your hope in tact And be glad history is not repeated I hope that things can change You'll step up if I step back There's still time, still time Just a little time, to finally get on track Please don't leave me with a broken heart Stuck on the sorry page To the person who said sorry most It's your final chance to change
