Please, Don'T Call Me Your 'Friend'

You will never write me.
You will never call.

You will never inquire about my day.
You will believe my heart will never fall.

Your words will be made
Of incendiary copiers
Of toddler’s glue

To tell hundreds of others
How unique
They never were

Without online reminders,
I will be another passing celebration.

Another misunderstood gasp of amnesia
Reaching out with curdled arms
Amongst plucked yesterdays

Where were you in the weeks of our passing lull?

Did you crawl towards remedial rest stop
As you pleasured tomorrow’s misguided wish

Because
It was never guaranteed

But, you knew that.

Just like admiration,
Yet, never expecting its counterpart
To be awoken from fantasy’s French kiss

I hold the bliss of hopeful awakenings
From this familiar rooftop
That you will know what it really means
What it really means

To become what you have forgotten

A solicited facade of bonded breaths
Ready to fall

Drake, friends are important, but if they never come around to check on you or pick up the phone to say hi, they are not friends. I love this poem. It says a lot and it gets close to the heart. great work, thanks for sharing.

Ow ..This is powerful and deep Drake.I do feel that there is more than friendship going in these verses...I hope this persona realizes..She s the one you re writing about..I hope she fulfills your wishes and bliss your dear heart with joy.I do feel forgotten by friends at times..till everynow and then they visit or send me a message..But this seems to be more than friend to friend bases.Heart touching.Hope I always be a good poetry friend to you..Im sure you have many friends who care.
Tacito Avatar
February 1, 2014 at 7:39 AM
I have people who care and I'm grateful very much for that. But, my wishes are being fulfilled just fine on my own without the reliance/dependency on another. Plus, this wasn't about me, personally. :) It's just folks who use the "friend" word like it's a buzzword on Google. It's pitiful to say the least. You're awesome, dear Charmaine. *big hug*

You constantly amaze me! This is raw, emotional, and powerful. There is pain in feeling insignificant to someone who matters. I always read your poems more than once. And every time I find some new nugget of truth that jumps up and gives me a little smack. This read it is the line "another misunderstood gasp of amnesia". It keeps playing in my head. I think it wants to break free and become its own poem.

MONTEREY!!! WOOOOOT! I am beyond elated this morning with everybody's comments, and now yours!! I am so damn fortunate!!!! I'm all for those nuggets of truth. Even without an online reminder, you will never be a passing celebration to me. Your heart and talent has captured me over the months. I've been laid up recovering from surgery for the past week or so, yet it is my friends on the soup who are often on my mind and in my heart. Too drugged to write, or read much, but every day I've looked forward to reading your poems... Yes, just to get a feel for how my friend is doing. This was a vivid emotional write... Beautiful though sad.

the most important things about friendship are reciprocity, emotional connection, and respect...actually, i got sick, had a birthday that went on for a week, and learned my speakers got busted, drake... i hope we are still friends???... seriously, you gave this so much energy and was a bit dark.. it's as if i were right inside your mind giving this person on the rocks a blow ... just wow!.. huggs!

If I were to presume to read between the lines, this one comes from the gut of some true feelings It is too easy to think a friendship, or (more) is the real thing,.especially when it is an online communication happening.Sad to say, not everyone is sincere, some only live in the moment for the "thrill" of it...while one on the receiving end, has faith, trust, and honor..The sting of it is painful indeed,..you write for many who have felt the sting of neglect, and carelessness. This packs a punch!

I have felt what you feel......I have been where you are........I sometimes feel I am still there! Drake...this is one of your ABSOLUTE BEST! I love your work Drake but this one doesn't do it for me. It lacks your usual humour and essence. It almost feels like it was written by someone else. Are you in a bad place currently? I hope not, take care my friend. Oops I didn't follow your instructions *lol* oh well you're stuck with me buddy.

HA! Charming sir! I appreciate that. There was a different goal in mind with this, yes. Not the usual. It was sarcasm in basic verbiage, at first. I changed it up. That said, yes, I'm lovely. But, no, the cause for this writing wasn't. People use the word "friend" like running water in a faucet with no dishes to wash. Wasted. Not really appreciated. No real grasp of what it means. They confuse "friend" with "acquaintance". Many thanks, Richard.
