Jan, as I read this and viewed the picture the age old mind bender of "How do you get the goose out of the bottle?" popped into my ever weary mind. Congrats on your placement with this timely interpretation.

I think this is very clever Jan. Congrats on your win. I think SKAT judged the contest very well however for me yours and Usual Suspect (Rueben)'s would have been higher on the list.

About your haiku, I was not thrilled about the first line, but the second and last line pushed you back onto the list. :) (hope you don't mind my honesty) SK

Jan, this is a beautiful and stinging image. Our reckless disregard for biodiversity is another form of debt. If a fair value was placed on the things we have wrecked, we would know just how bankrupt we are. You are a beacon among the wreckage. In a way, we do have to break the glass--it's an emergency. There is really a lot here to ponder. Thanks for the wonderful thinking you have brought me to today. This is something I will be thinking about a lot. This has potency for the brain.

How true and scary your Haiku is dear, Jan! It reminds me of Einstein's saying" When bees disappear the human race will follow" Excellent poem and a stern warning if anyone listens! A seven!

I marve at the bee's industry and making of honey, but that's all. As for eggs, I was brought up on them, it's to the French what potatoes are to the Irish or pasta to Italians. They have many culinary uses. Sorry to hear you eat them rarely, though. Thanks for your many stops. / M

You are right about the declining bee population; even in Malta it is noticeable, and that is worrying. Well done with this haiku, Jan; gl in the contest. hugs // paul

Thanks Anne Lise the bee population is declining and the varroa mite is devastating to a bee colony and if we have fewer bees we are in danger of massive implications with our harvests :-( hugs Jan xx
