Playing a Black Game
PLAYING A BLACK GAME
The spiral staircase made her high heels sing,
He saw her as if gyrating upward onto cloud nine
Swinging her slender arms like bird’s blithe wing,
The dreamy eyes glittering in the sunset shine
But the mind a bit nervous and unsure, why this call
From a stranger, it’s important for you, he’d said.
That’s why she came, curious to make sure after all
It wasn’t anything about the secret second life she led.
From here the City churches pierced the mist
He showed her pictures of her wedding in one of them
Her clouded mind couldn’t for a moment resist
Thinking why was this grave man playing this game
Until he showed her pictures of the intimate scene
With a man not her husband, she then felt the grip of a blackmailer,
Taking her diamond necklace, opened the door, saying I’ll come again
He closed it, and now smiling, crossed the square.
