Planet In Peril

Our beloved Planet lies in peril...
The Lords of Passion would decree.
The weather's getting warmer
As any fool can plainly see.

But I hate to burst your bubble
As Mother Nature takes her course.
We be but a temporary infestation
That for the moment sallies forth.

The ice caps will lose their flavor
As they've done many times before.
Greenland will shed her icy shroud
As crops ripen near her shores.

Planetary change is ever constant
And the seas will rise again.
Permafrost will unleash its carbon treasures
With her indifference to proclaim.

Yes... the Planet's been much warmer
As Romans and Vikings will attest.
So belay your passions and prostrations
And give your soul a rest.

I will gladly join with my community
As there is much we must affront.
But as to the control of Mother Nature...
That's a dog that will not hunt.

Your desire to make this Planet
Something it was never meant to be
Where its moods cannot be purchased
And cares not a fig for you or me.

So put aside your hubris and naivety...
With sweet ignorance to forsake.
As whether we perish by fire or ice...
It's Nature's call to make.

                The End

David Thank you for not making points and for noticing poignant life and death remaking.

So insightfully true - our planet is in peril. And if we lose a huge glacier in Antarctica to climate warming, sea levels rise considerably. Coastal cities face dire risks. Oh for better news. Thank you for this timely poem. Best wishes, Brian

If history holds... we are looking at another 150 years of warming. Keep that bathing suit handy. Stay well my friend.

Thanks Clive. A lot of people are very passionate about the weather which they know very little about. If someone is going to tell me how to live my life... at least do a little research and not just parrot what the politicians tell you. Stay well my friend.

God set the seasons in motion. Mankind can create havoc here on earth, causing damage. We are not the one in control. This is so beautifully expressed and presented. My best to you, David. :) Hugs, Brandy

Humility is in short supply my friend. Our faith allows us to except what is meant to be. But a lot of people are going down swinging... clinging to their hubris and pride. Such are the times we live in. Have a great day.

Obviously, a brilliant write, David. So true, what you've written. All the eco-enthusiasts are tilting at windmills, no better than Don Quixote, methinks. Bravo for putting it so poetically!! Great stuff! FAVE for me. Thanks, gw

There was something called the Roman Warming period that lasted from 100 B.C. to 250 A.D. (RWP) and the Medieval warming period that lasted from 900 A.D. to 1200 A.d. (MWP) I think we are just in another of those warming periods. People can huff and puff all they want... but it changes nothing. Stay frosty my friend.

Its an important subject. It doesn't take a lot of effort to find how the climate has warmed and cooled for thousands of years. People just believe whatever crap CNN pollutes the air with. Stay well my friend.
