Philandering Nature

A
handsome
butterfly
hovers over
my prized rose bushes.
How brightly he flutters
in the early light of day.
The blossom on which he settles
is the first virginal bloom of May.
She is newly opened and most fragrant.
As if blushing, she receives her suitor -
a black butterfly with wings whose tips
blend divinely with the hue of
her velvet crimson beauty.
Philandering nature
when a butterfly
steals the nectar
of the rose,
then just
goes!
