PEASANTS WITH PLEASANT RAGS

You see us everywhere you go Every corner of your street house our offspring Every bridge in your city has become our refugee camp We are the people you call peasant We are the peasants with pleasant rags You see us at the entrance of your estates You see us at the gate of your beautiful companies In search of what our mouth will feed on next We are the peasants with pleasant rags Our gradually fading skin Now a sweet companion to the midnight moon and afternoon sun We are the ones without homes We are the peasants with pleasant rags When bridges become forbidden by the law We opt for uncompleted buildings A few of us get lucky when it rains And shield themselves under cars We are the peasants with pleasant rags We are the ones that beg for the remnant from your table We are the ones life has just not been fair to We are the peasants with pleasant rags We are the ones that get poorer while you get richer We are the ones that scramble for the leftover at your feast We are the ones that fight for your used clothes We are the peasants with pleasant rags

Hello Abosede, My best congratulations to you on the POTD honor here for this powerful and passionate verse you've masterfully rendered on behalf of those who are less fortunate, and very often, cannot speak for themselves. Your verse here is even more powerful given that it's Easter and that there is so much unfortunate pain and suffering among people worldwide. I agree with Robert's comment below: "You have a true poet's heart my friend." I agree, you do!! A SEVEN AND FAVE!! Cheers, Gary

That's the power we poets have, we are the voice of those that can't be heard. I'm glad I wrote this. Thanks for your kind words, Gary.

One thing poets can do is to bring home powerful words to call attention to a wrong (or a right)! You have done this admirably!

Dearest, Abosede, I was the first to comment on this wondrous poem of yours which I gave a 7 and made it a favorite. Imagine my surprise not to see my comment here. I do not know why it happened but I just repeat that your poem is extraordinary for me because I was one of the people you describe here!

I'm sorry to hear about that, Demetrios. We all can't determine what situation we would be born into, but we definitely can decide if we want to remain there has we grow up, or we choose a better side of life for ourselves. I believe you chose the latter, and I'm glad. Thanks for your constant visit here, friend. And thanks for the 7!

You describe the life of these people with impressive and striking words, Adosede. I can feel their needs and daily hardships. Most of all the abyss between rich and poor comes to mind. There are many kind people who donate for such causes, but ultimately it's political leaders who have the duty to solve these problems. ~ Regards // paul
