Past the Graveyard: Rondeau Premiere Contest Winner

Past the graveyard deep in snow where icicles from boughs hang low one woman at a headstone weeps as memories in warmth she keeps, all dressed in black like winter crows. Still muted angels' trumpets blow where frost on trees like lichens grow and 'cross the powder darkness creeps past the graveyard. As by the iron fence I go the granite gapes in pewter rows. My heart into my throat now leaps; her mortal love in silence sleeps in frozen ground while snowflakes blow past the graveyard. 11/14/17 This is a rewrite of my Terzanelle, "I Pass the Graveyard".

wow, this one has so many elements like the one I did on the same topic!! I also used a really old poem of mine and rewrote it with new stuff in the poem, but I also had the low hanging boughs and a crow in my poem. Certain rhymes just go so well together with blow, snow, etc!! I see you got a trophy win and it's very well deserved. BIG congrats

Oh, this is well done Dale. I haven't been on for a while but I still get the POTD. I get to read the poems but can't see the author. This one caught my eye and I just had to follow it back to see who wrote this gem. I am not suprised to see it was you. Great job!

I just need a break Dale. I found I wasn't writing for myself anymore. I'll be back more now that winter is setting in. Regards, Dean

Beautiful rondeau, Dale. Expertly done by your deft pen. I love the dark, Gothic themes. Yes, I was whistling while reading ... lol! Will read the terzanelle now. Love and smile always.
