Past Mistakes

I often wondered how I came to be,
Brought up by relatives so far away,
My parents fought, in parting they were free,
My lonely life never indulged in play.

Growing up, battling my sad life alone,
I studied hard, determined to achieve,
Saw my aunts, all finished in their gravestones
I worked and studied more, no time to grieve.

Until I met my sweet soul mate and learned
How good it felt to woo and love and care.
For hearts are won and not easily earned,
She became my world, together we'd share.

I learned about all other's past mistakes,
Kept joy and love, for that is all it takes.

Victor, I had a difficult upbringing too, so I know what harm it can do., the only saving grace was my lovely mother, bless her. I got through somehow and like you met the love of my life, yes that’s all it takes… Beryl

Such a heartfelt write Victor. So sorry for your parents leaving each other and the chaos that brought into your life. Love the devotion to your studies and education but mostly loved the take charge on your life through all the circumstances and meeting the love of your life. There are happy endings still and this was one. Glad to be back reading my favorite writers such as you my friend. Hope you are doing well and have to catch up on reading what I missed... Blessings to you Victor...

Past mistakes our own and others, should shape who we are today Victor, if we don’t learn from them they will just be repeated, as we see all over this world time and time again, a lovely sonnet with a personal uplifting message, cheers David

Dear Victor, this is such a beautiful sonnet full of wisdom learnt from past, painful experiences. It is a touching read but inner strength and positivity shines through with a determination to achieve many worthy things in life. A soul mate to share life’s up and downs with is the greatest blessing of all. I’m so glad you had that love and companionship. The couplet is insightful - I especially love the last line. Thank you for sharing. Blessings to you :)

Often the lessons lived and learned, are the truest. When shown love by another, the most precious thing one has to give -- is a blessing manifold in the heart. Beautiful writing my friend.

I always enjoy reading poetry written in the form of a Sonnet, Victor. Love can surely heal many wounds. Each of us have had our own trials and tribulations in this world, to find true love and share Love with another is a blessings. Focus on the Love you've had in this life and not on the mistakes or abuse we face, that is the secret of accepting who we are in the end and what our lives have accomplished while we were here. Smiles and Blessings, my friend. Bill

I know how hard it n must have been without parents to take care of. However you persevered and successfully got over all hurdles. As if to compensate for your early life's dejection, a beautiful lady came into your life as your soul mate.....and life became different from thence. You got all love possible for any husband and your life has been a joyous journey together until she left you for her heavenly abode. A beautiful sonnet celebrating your married life

We shared the same fate it looks like, but it was rough for a large family. I guess parents try, but they can only do what they were taught and learn to gain. And like you I found and lost my soul mate, but not for long.
