A part-time poet's destined to be plagued by pressure
  The press of time, the pulse of work, vanished years
Barely a moment to reflect, swirling phrases unmeasured
  Envisioning the thrill -- pondering ideas at leisure

  Bloody lies my train of thought, derailed once more
Envisioning the thrill -- pondering ideas at leisure
  What wouldn't I give for such unimaginable pleasure

  To start over -- Where was I? -- Cauldrons of frustration
What wouldn't I give for such unimaginable pleasure
  Dream on, part-time poet, of vast unattainable treasure

Comes my annual vacation, free at last from work's shackles
  Alas, stay-cations raise beloved family members' hackles

Yes, you're right. The tone was a bit (too) dark. I realized that on re-reading the poem a day after I'd posted it, but by then...I just let it go. Still and all, not a bad effort...And thank you, Michelle, for recognizing it for the truth there was to it. Appreciated. :) gw
