Parent Pain
He is in denial of the harm he has done
Relating to his kids as tokens of a battle to be won
Their youthful years can not be returned
Nor will the opportunities he's trashed and burned
It would take a miracle to open his eyes
He says he is not responsible for causing their cries
And that his actions will create a grander fate
But that is not possible living in anger and hate
So I work to repair all he has damaged and torn
And often the days are long and my strength gets worn
But I want them to know when they grow old
It's not nature's plan for men to be cold
And should they be blessed with kids of their own
They will know a good dad uses a loving tone
I will teach them to be wise and to see with their heart
So that no man's pain can ever tear them apart
