Out of Order

I hate when my cable’s out of order.
It seems I call them again and again.
If it’s not one thing then it’s another.
And all of it is surely a big pain.

Sometimes I’ll be forever on the phone
just waiting for a person to get through to.
It’s worse when the technician that I get
is someone seeming to live in Timbuku.

It never fails that they cannot help me.
Then they schedule me for a repair date,
which is any time between 12 and 5.
I stay home all afternoon just to wait.

Even worse is when my Roku box
is on the fritz, for there’s no help for me
when that goes out! For that, I’m on my own.
It’s not part of my cable’s warranty.

But these are such small problems when I think
of all the bad things in the world today.
I need to fix my mind on what is good:
at least TV’s in color now -not black, white and grey.

This is exemplary, Andrea. The frustrations of resolving technical glitches is aptly described. Yet you see things in perspective. Congratulations, Howard

Is this a real-life vent not something for a contest because that's what it feels like? I can sooo relate and I adore that you wrote this. In my case, after holding and holding the person who finally answers will inevitably have an Indian accent which I cannot understand and while not personal, I want to shoot them. Soup Mail

Congratulations, dear poetess, on your top win in this contest with a lovely poem depicting your feelings and worries when cable at your place goes out, Appreciated the last stanza, particularly "I need to fix my mind on what is good:". Indeed, our worries compared to what is taking place around us is a grain of sand in the ocean. Wishing you a pleasant bright day.

seems like when one little thing goes awry, then lots of other things do too...my life has been so out-of-order lately but as you suggested, one needs to step back and get some perspective

What a powerful/true write you have here. This week I was told 1 1/2 hours wait time. I hung up. "Good Luck" I also did this contest. Have a great day writing away............

Technology changes fast.Sometimes it is hard to keep up to that. As far as technician problem, I dislike 12 to 5 pm wait. Congress should outlaw such practice.

I have experienced this more times than I care to recall. Yet...I can recall a time when we didn't have television and found ways to entertain ourselves. I remember them with great fondness. So nice to still find you here at the soup, Andrea.

It's not out of order now. It happens once or twice a year. Usually an easy fix if only I was tech savvy!!
