Out-Of-Body Experience
While I was walking alone on the beach
I was confronted with an eerie sight
My body was casting two shadows
One on the left and one more on the right
They were having a loud conversation
Both unconcerned that I might overhear
The topic my current situation
And how all of us had ended up here.
The shadow on the left appeared cautious
He hesitated each time that he spoke.
The shadow on the right was more raucous
More overbearing and quick with a joke.
Why is it you're always so worried
And prevent him from sleeping at night
You are going to drive the man crazy
Quipped the irreverent one on the right
There's a time and a place to be flippant
All life's problems can't be solved with a joke
I'm not saying there's no place for humor
The left shadow took a pause and then spoke.
The conversation was not Socratic
It more resembled a tv discourse
Table pounding and shouting trumped reason
I was saddened but remembered the source.
