Our Lives
We look at other people’s lives,
So different from our own
And realize no one else’s days
Look like the ones we’ve known.
The way we choose to spend our time,
The structure of each week
Can’t be compared to anyone’s,
For we all are unique.
Though similarities exist –
We eat, we bathe, we sleep –
That surface sameness skims the top
While differences run deep.
We’d have a lot of trouble
If our lives we’d have to trade
For it’s taken so much effort
To create the ones we’ve made.
