Our Dream

OUR DREAM

When we arose from the ground on angel-wings,
And like the mighty eagle, soared high
Among the wispy clouds,
We whistled into the gale,
Laughed at the growling thunder,
And out of the driving storm
Knew we'd see beyond the rainbow’s arch
Into the panorama of crystal, blue sky,
And we moved through the breathless
Heat of the sun.

This was the first poem I wrote after coming out in October 2011 at the age of 63. Four months before, I had written a poem entitled: MY DREAM. The line read: If I could rise from the ground on angel-wings. I had no idea why I wrote it. I was anticipating an event. After I came out, it made total sense. My focus was no longer on myself but others, and still is.

This was the first poem I wrote after coming out as a gay man just over 10 years ago. 4 months before, I had written a poem entitled: My Dream. The first line read: If I could rise from the ground on angel-wings. Everything pointed to the future, it was an unknown future. It concerned me rather than others (as well as myself) as in the later version, which reflects my present viewpoint.
