Picture this world a few thousand years ago
A natural landscape nothing else on show
But look around you now what do you find
Planes, boats, cars, and things of every kind.

Computers, machines and rockets into space
All put together by the clever human race
Skyscrapers' so tall that reach for the sky
Built from materials that you can easily buy.

But have you ever wondered how this is so?
Maybe you just accept it or don't really know
But all we once had were green hills and trees
High mountains, giant lakes, rocks and seas.

There are still many things waiting to be found
In the rainforest fauna or rocks in the ground
Cures for every illness and longer you'll live
Earth is very generous and gifts she will give

We all want some answers, well have no fear
The answers that you seek are already here
Sooner or later some very clever scientist
Will find the answer and tick it off their list.

Electricity and fire, great powers of nature
That power man harnessed to make life easier
But man has got greedy and doesn't really care
Making big profits and at a price he will share.

We have so much now everything at our feet
Yet many in the world have nothing to eat
Some countries on earth have wealth so vast
While many on this planet still live in the past.

We both do have great minds Tom lol, I thought I was the only one who thought about things like this. We must be related through Adam and Eve, it's sad how we take, take, take from the earth and never give anything back. all of this given to us for free and man only cares about profit, GREAT WRITE!! my friend.

Thank you Bobby, the problem is when there's nothing else left to take, what then. Tom.

A great write, Tom! Too much commercialization! If we weren’t so greedy what would the world look like...

Thanks Kim, I'm sure it would be a happier place if people weren't obsessed with the latest technology. The obscene wealth some countries have should be shared out with poorer countries. Tom

The changing of days with humans and nature changes the world and now one seems to care. Nicely done, Tom. Happy Thanksgiving

What a powerful reminder that our world is filled with the trappings of a greedy population that has given little thought to the way they destroy natural beauty. Your last verse is especially poignant for we keep making advances, but leaving much of the population in need. I don't think God intended for this to happen. Your poem is a wakeup call that should be headed, my friend. Your caring nature is revealed in this write. Love, Carolyn

Thank you very much Carolyn, its a shame mankind has become selfish and greedy and is driven by profit with no concern for the less fortunate. The world produces' enough food to feed the whole world twice over but sadly many are starving. Tom.

Thank you for this reminder. Sometimes we plunder the resources that we have with no thought to tomorrow. That ending really got to me. If only the wealthy would give a portion of their wealth so other who are truly unable to provide for themselves can have hope for a better life. Thank you for sharing this message.

Thank you Eileen, mankind has become selfish and is only interested in profit while people in poorer countries starve through no fault of their own. I see big companies dumping their computers and replacing them just so their budget is secured for the following year. Greed and profit seems to drive people these days. Tom.

Tom, this is beautifully composed to open the hearts and minds of those who take things for granted and are unconcerned with those less fortunate. A noble poem with a calling! Excellent! : ) xxoo

Thank you Connie, it had bothered me for some time to see the waste we produce and the tons of food that is dumped daily. They encourage people to throw away things so more profits' can be made. Tom.

Thanks S.O., the warnings are there but many choose to ignore them thinking that its not their problem. The seas are polluted and the rubbish piles higher and people continue to starve. Tom.

Hi Tom, this is such a wonderful and real write. I do wish there were some middle ground with nature Tom. Like most people, I do depend so much on technology. I should take more time being one with nature. One day we shall go too far and then life shall begin again, Maybe with a second chance, we can find a better way. An excellent write my friend. Have a wonderful Friday. Your friend always....Mike.

Thank you Mike, we'd be lost without it for sure, it does have it's advantages. But more needs to be done to share wealth and discoveries. Tom.

Thank you Brenda, the world has become a dangerous place now with all these weapons of mass destruction, we can only live in hope that no one presses the button, too much knowledge can be a bad thing. Tom.

- A real thought-provoking writing, Tom - In many ways, I think many people feel better without all this "new fashion things"- we want more and more while others suffer ... greed has no limits - Excellent poem, Tom :) - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

Thanks Sunshine, I remember growing up with a black and white tv and if you wanted to turn over the channel you got up to do it. Some inventions make you lazy. You're right about the greed. Tom.

I do not know how I missed this marvel of a poem my dearest friend, Tom! It is a hymn to the harmonious world our Lord has created and a condemnation to the foolish works of Man! Bravo my friend!

Thanks Nina, it seems to me that now everything is driven by profit and big corporations are like scavenging dogs all out for their piece. Man has got too greedy and selfish with not a thought for the less fortunate. Tom.
