Only Time Knows When

you said, “someday, maybe we’ll be right,” but we both had dreams too big for one night. the world kept pulling us apart, but i held on to you in my heart. no one can rush what’s meant to be— if it’s real, it will return to me. only time knows when our paths will cross again. maybe not today, but love has learned to stay. through every year, each silent prayer, i’ll keep the hope we used to share. i don’t know how, or why, or then— but only time knows when. i see your face in strangers’ eyes, and in old songs that never say goodbye. some loves don’t need to have an end— they live in pause, not just pretend. i don’t need answers carved in stone— just faith that i’m not loving alone. only time knows when the stars will shine again. and if the winds decide to turn, i’ll be right here when you return. even if fate forgets the plan, i’ll stand where we began. i can’t say where or how or then— but only time knows when. maybe love is not a race, maybe it just waits in grace. and if the clock must test my soul, i'll wait for love to make me whole. only time knows when, but i’ll believe ‘til then. for hearts like ours don’t just forget— they live in every sunset. so come what may, or where, or who, my heart will still beat true. we’ll meet again, beyond the bend… only time knows when.
