Only Feelings

"They're only feelings", I heard someone say. And the phrase kept coming back to me. I know feelings can get in the way. Without inhibitions they are free. But to minimize them to only, was hard to understand. They are there when we're lonely. There when we choose to take a stand. Feelings come from deep within. Surfacing when we have cause to react. Changing at times due to where we have been. Leaving us unprepared for the impact. Is there a way to alter the way we feel? How do we turn it around? Tell ourselves over and over until it is real? So a new way to feel can be found. My feelings belong only to me. No other can know how I feel. I need them to allow me to feel free. Then I can focus on how to heal.
