Notes About The Poem

There were protests and kerfuffles at the Kentucky Derby today...

One White Stallion

The horses were frightened
  refused to leave their stalls
Some kind of racial clash
  compromised the safety of all

Then one horse looked about
  one fact clearly stood out
15 Derby entrants, 4/5 brown or black
not one white stallion in the whole shack

Well, this was quite the crisis
it called for a calm and cool head
That's when that one horse
Put a call in to Mr. Ed

Ed picked up the receiver
  but his voice sounded strange
I can't help you posthumously, he said
I'm now 'Home on the Range'

Quite amusing Gershon - and a little melancholy. Thanks for the grins, laf

Poor Ed! I bet he could have showed them a thing or two...or, for inspiration, recited a poem exalting Kind Arthur's magnificent steads. Great write! Love it!

And just think, I didn't even have to put in any 'straight man parts' for Wilbur! Thanks, Kim! Grins on Chins, Gershon

There were several beautiful greys. A white thoroughbred is VERY rare. One owner was black, and protesters wanted him to take his horse out of the race because they told him it's a white man's sport. People are over the edge and falling over too many things in todays excuse for society. I really need to start reading you more, Gershon, but I'm losing interest in the soup.

Yes, you're right about those gray horses in the Derby alright. I just assumed that they were all brown or black. Mea culpa... As for losing interest in the soup; it's better than losing interest on the soup, I suppose. I hear that vegetable soup is still paying 5.25% compounded daily... ~ Tik-tok Stock Ticker

I loved that show! I had glanced at this poem and immediately thought Mr. Ed, and then BAM! There he was! Our childhood is showing!

I like how you tagged in Mr Ed from 'Home on the Range' - I watched the race today, and from what I saw, the protesters were non violent (and there were actually three gray horses in the field) - next up, the Preakness in October-

From the news reports that I saw, the police managed to keep the leftists and the rightists from tearing each other apart. As for the horses, mea culpa: I just assumed that they were all darker color... Oh, well; no wonder Mr. Ed wouldn't pass judgment! lol. Thanks, Michelle
