One Night
She touched my arm so gently
As we talked about the day
Of music, mirth, and circumstance
And all the games we play
Her eyes were lit with promise
And they teased of mystery
Her head was back and tilted
As we stood where none could see
She faced my side to whisper
Some of the secrets "goin' 'round"
While I listened with a passion
As my heart began to pound
Pictures painted purple
And forbidden latitudes
All hidden in the banter
And concealed with platitudes
Her voice was soft
As a warm summer breeze
From ruby lips
That taunted and teased
Calmly and cool
She took both my hands
And by a dwindling fire
Danced to love's command
